Pieštany has 28 925 residents in present. The inhabitants’ structure has significantly high proportion of educated people and work force with qualification. The Slovak nationality dominates the region (97.5%).

The number of economically active people in town is 18 371. The unemployment rate in the district is around 5.2% while Pieštany belong to districts with the lowest unemployment rate in the long term.

There are 4 pre-school institutions, 5 primary schools, 8 secondary schools (2 Grammar schools, 6 secondary professional schools or training colleges), 1 special school and 2 universities (Institute of Physiotherapy, Balneology and Rehabilitation, Sst. Cyril and Methodius University in Trnava and St. Elisabeth School of Heath and Social Work).
It is possible to undertake a bachelor study at the Secondary Horticulture School; in the Phare programme it is a pilot school in its field. Hotel Academy also has long term tradition.
